Each year at the Australian National Optimist Championship regatta, the top 20 sailors are chosen to be members of AOST, and these sailors represent Australia at a number of International regattas:

The top 5 represent Australia at the next Worlds, and the others to various international regattas, including the Asian Regional Championships, the New Zealand Nationals, Singapore Nationals, etc.,

These events provide the sailors with a unique addition to their sailing experience; thus the Australian Nationals are just the start of an Optimist sailor's year.

Queensland had just one sailor in AOST in 2010, Klaus Lorenz from Whitsunday Sailing Club. This year the number has increased to 7! - Klaus, Charlie Wyatt (RQYS), Kye Evans (MSC, RQYS), Kyle O'Connell (SYC), Thomas Cunich (SYC), Eva Lorenz (WSC) and Claire McInally (SYC).

Well done Team Queensland!

The next Nationals will be held in January at RQYS, Manly, so there's no excuse! Be there to earn your place in the 2012 AOST!
