2011 Queensland Optimist State Championship Sailing Report
By Kyle O’Connell
On the weekend of the 4th and 5th of June I competed in the 2011 Qld Optimist dinghy championship, it was held at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in conjunction with the Sail Mooloolaba Regatta . There were 35 Optimists in the open fleet and eight in the green fleet .The open fleet got to race offshore on trapezoid courses and the Green fleet raced inshore.
Eva Lorenz, from Whitsunday Sailing Club, has now been joined by Claire McInally of Southport Yacht Club, both having been invited to join the AOST team for the 2011 Asian Championships, taking place in Singapore from 22 to 31 July. Although not in the original AOST team, Eva and Claire were next on the list of girls after several team members pulled out. There is an IODA requirement that a team larger than 5 must have at least one member of a different gender. So Girl Power wins!
Attached please find the AGM minutes of the Queensland 420 Association, and poster advertising the Qld. State 420 Championship regatta.
The 420 Association are very keen to see ex-Opti sailors consider the 420 as a next step, and would like to hear from any sailors considering a 2-up boat.
