Here's the first (of many?) reports from sailors.... photos will be posted soon... ed.
My Name is Stuart Plenderleith and I am from Northbridge S.C and this is my experience at Southport Yacht Club.
My experience at the Queensland State Optimist Championships was huge because I learned a lot of things that I could not have learnt at Northbridge S.C such as the tide.
The 8 members of the Australian Optimist Sailing Team who travelled to Whitianga, NZ, for the NZ Nationals all finished in the top 50, and two finished in the top 10! Full results are on the NZIODA website, and the Aussies finished:
Klaus Lorenz (Qld), 7th; Jack Graves (Vic), 10th; James McLennan (Vic), 19th; Tyrone Gowans (Vic), 20th; Alistair Young (WA), 29th; Brodie Crossman (NSW), 31st; Tom Trotman (Vic), 44th; Chris Charlewood (WA), 49th.
The photo shows (L to r) Tom, Klaus, Brodie, Alistair, James, coach Ivor MacNamara, Chris, Jack and Tyrone.
The closing date for the first prize draw for photographs was 31st March, but we still need more! The prize for the first draw will be awarded at the State Championship in May. The second round will be drawn 30th June, and awarded soon after.
Send your pics for publication to admin@qioda.com before the closing date
