It's not about the boat!

Welcome to the home of the Queensland International Optimist Dinghy Association. The International Optimist is an exciting class of dinghy sailed by junior sailors (6-15yrs) all around the world. The Optimist is strictly a one-design  boat, which brings many advantages:

• Races are won by good sailors, not 'good' boats;
• Competition is fierce and in big fleets (National Championships attract over 150 boats);
• Optimists are very affordable with prices from $2,000 - $4,000 for a second hand or new boat;
• If you travel to a regatta, you don't need to take your own boat - you can borrow or hire one;
• The design makes them very easy to store and manage onshore;
